Black History Month X Woman of Wonder Kamala Harris

February 13, 2021

In honor of the Black History Month, we decided to celebrate the ultimate woman of wonder- Kamala Harris. Honestly who would have thought that 2020 had something good in store for us? But there she came, with no cape, yet looking snatched at that inauguration ceremony, allowing us to envision something bigger for ourselves. To dream that a woman of color could get at a position where no woman at all ever got before. Now that’s one 2020 plot twist for the books if you ask me …

"Anyone who claims to be a leader must speak like a leader. That means speaking with integrity and truth," Kamala Harris

Madam Vice President of the United States of America on behalf of all the little girls out there: Thank you for paving the way.

The Black History Month is the right opportunity to pay tribute to the pioneers of African American History. It is also a great way to look at how far we’ve come on certain things and how far we still have to go.

At the Beem Box we want to take this opportunity to remember the mission and vision that the brand was founded on. We also want to continue working towards that drive of delivering value.

From the lack of representation of women of color in mainstream media we took that frustration to build a company run by a young and savvy black woman that relates to her customers more than anyone. We got right in that market and decided to deliver for these black and brown women that, too often, feel left out of the beauty conversation to let them know “ WE GOT YOU SIS’ “ and “ YOU LOOK GOOD”.

That’s why we’re so happy this month, February 2021, we get to celebrate the woman of wonder of the next 4 year, Kamala Harris.

Seeing the new Vice President pledge on January 20th, 2021 was for many women in America, but also in the entire world, a message of hope and inspiration. She’s paving the way for all of us and we’re here for that !

Let’s say that again: she’s the first Black and Asian American woman to become Vice President. Whew chile!

We can all learn from her, that’s why we’ve decided to select 6 of her best empowering quotes:

  • "My mother would look at me and she’d say, 'Kamala, you may be the first to do many things, but make sure you are not the last,'"
  • "To the children of our country, regardless of your gender, our country has sent you a clear message: Dream with ambition, lead with conviction, and see yourself in a way that others might not see you, simply because they’ve never seen it before. And we will applaud you every step of the way,"
  • "I hope that by being a 'first,' I inspire young people to pursue their dreams,"
  • "The number of times I’ve heard the word 'no'—or that something can’t be done—in my lifetime is too many to count. I’m honored to be considered a “first,” but I always think about the people who came before and paved the way for me to get where I am today. From Rosa Parks to Shirley Chisholm to Congressman John Lewis, I stand on the shoulders of so many great men and women before me."
  • "There will be people who say to you, 'You are out of your lane. They are burdened by only having the capacity to see what has always been instead of what can be. But don't you let that burden you."
  • “What I want young women and girls to know is: You are powerful and your voice matters,""You're going to walk into many rooms in your life and career where you may be the only one who looks like you or who has had the experiences you've had. But you remember that when you are in those rooms, you are not alone. We are all in that room with you applauding you on. Cheering your voice. And just so proud of you. So you use that voice and be strong.”
